Pet First Aid Class

Thanks to Pat O'Neil, instructor for the class offered by the American Red Cross of the Blue Ridge, we had a half day course on how to help stabilize a seriously injured dog. Pat taught us how to muzzle, band- age, perform CPR and transport a seriously injured dog to the vet's office.

Many pet owners feel powerless when their pet or another dog is injured or ill. This class certainly helped us feel we might have more control over an otherwise helpless situation. We also received a DVD, book and written materials to keep as a home reference.

Pet Dog Extravaganza
Harrisonburg, VA.

Well. the Pet Dog Extravaganza finally arrived. The day was blessed with great weather, wonderful friends, and a whole lot of fabulous dogs.

We would like to thank all the sponsors, vendors, and volunteers that came out and made the day a great success. Without each and every one of you it would not have been possible to have pulled this together.

A special thanks belongs to the exceptional JMU group who worked tirelessly on this project; Caroline Farley, Caitlin Hart, Colleen Hooker, Wanda Fair and Fred Rose. They worked endlessly since the first of September with never a complaint, only enthusiasm for what we do....helping dogs in need.

A huge thank you to Pam Shuler and Vicki Soles, who helped plan and execute the event. Vicki went the extra mile by working with Annie Hoblob of Barnes & Noble and getting Ted Kerasote, nationally known best-selling author of Merle's Door: Lessons from a Freethinking Dog, to attend the event with a book signing and slide presentation. What a job that was! Thanks for the extra special work to: Kathy Farley, Maureen Hooker, Linda Link, Sheli Rhodes, Dr. Stacy Reeder, Theresa Harvey, Jeff Fitt, Ted Kerasote, Sue Bernston, Betty Oister, Dandylion Whine, and Megan & Bella.

And of course, those folks who helped us out with freebies & exposure: Domino's Pizza, Campbell Copy Center, Elizabeth Rome with the Daily News Record, James Jackson with WHSV TV3, and Dennis Cupp with the Rockingham County Fairgrounds.

And those volunteers who worked so hard with their own dogs and put on such wonderful demonstations:

Chat Turner, Lori Curry & Jan Larson - Rally, Obedience, Freestyle
Sheli Rhodes & Wendy Pendleton - Agility
Rod Pollard & Noble - K-9 Demo
Misty Sampson & Laurel Warren - Search & Rescue
Jana Brady - Herding

BUDWEISER CLYDESDALES AND SHENANDOAH HARLEY DAVIDSON EVENT
Staunton, VA

Man, oh Man, it was hard to beat the funloving crowd at the Shenandoah Harley Davidson event on July 21st! Nothing but good old fashioned entertainment and a dedicated crowd to round out a perfect day of laughter and goodwill.

Tons of people vied for a gander at the Budweiser Clydesdales, along with Buddy the Dalmatian. Then there was the Battle of the Bands Competition, the Miss Shenandoah Harley Davidson Contest, and the Summer of Thunder Bike Giveaway. It was a lot to pack into one day. But, as always, Shenandoah Harley Davidson did it with style!

Best of all, with the hard work and support of our dedicated volunteers, many of whom are new to us, we raised a substantial amount of money! Yeah! And, of course, every penny will go to help dogs in need! We can’t thank Bob Ladd and his staff at SHD, John D. Eiland, and Reddy Ice enough for the opportunity to participate in this event. You guys rock!

None of this could have happened without ANGELA BROWN, COURTNEY LEACH, and BOB LADD. Thank you so much for your support!

A special mention to ADAM BRIGHT and KAY HENDERSON who drove here from Harper's Ferry, West Virginia to help us raise money for the dogs! Way beyond the call. A huge special thanks!

Over 17 Virginia wineries were represented, along with great live entertainment, artisans, crafters, antique cars, mansion tours, children’s events, great festival food, and, of course, The Mosby Foundation. Nikita & Suzanne
Steppin' Out
Blacksburg, VA

If you've never been to blacksburg, Va. for their summer festival, you need to mark your calendars for next year! More than 30,000 people attend this fun filled 2-day festival put on by the Downtown Merchants of Blacksburg. We were there, represented by Virginia Tech's Vicki Walter and Cheryl Clark. We can't thank you enough ladies for helping us spread our word to the New River Valley - we love you, and all the folks associated with Virginia Tech's Veterinary Hospital.

Steppin' Out offered us the opportunity to meet Suzanne Ament and Nikita. Suzanne is blind and teaches history at Radford University. Her seeing eye dog, Nikita, is literally her eyes to the world. Suzanne trained with Nikita in New Jersey for 30 days before bringing her back home. Seeing eye dogs, like Nikita, make their contribution every day, so people like Suzanne can make theirs! What a wonderful team!

Sipping Wine and Smelling Flowers

What a way to spend a weekend! We were honored to be a part of the nationally known Andre Viette Daylily & Wine Festival on July 15th & 16th, sponsored by the Greater Augusta Regional Chamber of Commerce.  It was a beautiful weekend with families and friends enjoying all the activities.

And, as luck would have it, The Mosby Foundation was set up right next to a big pond with gorgeous daylilies all around us.  Everyone had a fabulous time tasting Virginia wines and Virginia beer brewed in small batches.  There were wonderful lectures on gardening, offered by nationally known gardener and author Andre Viette. The food was great and the vendors excellent.

And once again, we were overwhelmed by such wonderful community support.  A huge thank you goes out to Kenny & Phyllis Craig, Vicki Edelmann and Carole Adams.  You can tell by the picture of board member Kenny Craig and Miss Virginia USA, Amber Copley, that Kenny was certainly enjoying himself!

We want to especially thank Andre Viette and his family for hosting such a great event.  Plus, all of the Virginia wineries, South River Grill, and The Chamber of Commerce for supporting us!

Rolling Thunder!
Once again the business of having good fun was
provided by Shenandoah Harley Davidson.
Two great events, the East Coast Hawaiian
Tropic contest and Biker Bob’s BBQ Bash gave
the whole community good food, good music and
great support of The Mosby Foundation. Thanks once again to our dedicated group of volunteers, Carole & John Adams. Phyllis & Kenny Craig, and Sarah & Libby Nutty, and Courtney. What red-blooded American male can resist a beauty contest? But Jeb had the best seat in the house. And by the looks of things, he knew how good he had it!

Jeb enjoys the limelight with a few other beauties at the Harley-Davidson East Coast Tropic finals.
