Casper
’s Story
Pulaski
,
Va
Branded
a chicken killer,
Casper
, a female white
Husky, was shot in the head with a pellet gun and CHAINED. No one
checked on her and
Casper
’s chain collar
grew in to her skin. So, her owners simply took bolt cutters and tore it
off her neck, leaving
Casper
unable to bark.
That’s
when they decided she could live the rest of her life inside a horse
trailer. But Tammy Sowers had a different plan for
Casper
. She volunteered
to take the mistreated dog home with her.
Casper
, it turned out,
was very pregnant and she began vomiting and experiencing constant
diarrhea shortly after her puppies were born.
Rapidly
losing weight and strength, Tammy rushed her to the vet’s office.
Casper
was diagnosed
with a severe case of whip and hook worms. She was treated for the
parasites and sent home. But
Casper
did not improve.
Tammy
took her back to her vet. Upon further examination, Casper was found to
have an infection in her uterus. And her intestines were knotted because
of the severity of the whip and hook worm infestation.
An
emergency spaying was recommended to save
Casper
’s life. Because
Casper
had weaned her
pups at two weeks, the surgery was a go. The vet not only spayed
Casper
, but also cleaned
and straightened out her intestines.
Now
Tammy reports that
Casper
is “eating like
a horse and gaining weight.” All the puppies have been given to good
homes.
A
friendly dog who loves to romp and play, Tammy tells us that
Casper
is “a big part
of our family and always will be.”
We’re
glad to have offered a helping hand to both Tammy and
Casper
to make her new
life so wonderful!
